Florence, March 12th 2025 - After the great audience success of the last summer with the staging of Rossini's "Il barbiere di Siviglia" the Cavea del Maggio open-air theatre on the Maggio's roof will be back with one of the most famous and loved operas of the melodramma "L'elisir d'amore" by Gaetano Donizetti

"We are glad to present this year a neew opera staging in the Cavea of our Theatre. A summer space that can be attended by citizens and the many tourists who will visit Florence and Tuscany - said Carlo Fuortes, superintendent of the Maggio Fiorentino - We repeat, therefore, the experience started last summer that has had a great response from our public. The Cavea will become in the future a fixed space of the summer show offer of our Theatre, also considering the pleasantness of the place and the excellent acoustics of the space that does not require any electronic amplification of the orchestra’s sound, of the choir and singers."

The performances are scheduled from July 7th with replays on 9th, 11th, 14th at 21st. On the podium Alessandro Bonato, who returns after his symphonic debut in September 2024, the direction of the new staging is signed by Roberto Catalano, for the first time at Maggio. The choir master is Lorenzo Fratini. Lavinia Bini plays Adina, Antonio Mandrillo plays Nemorino, Hae Kang plays Belcore, Aloisia de Nardis plays Giannetta and Dulcamara is played by Roberto De Candia. Tickets on sale from March 13th with two price ranges: “Sector A” 50 euros; “Sector B” 30 euros.

The director Catalano thought of a space that would dialogue in full harmony with the open space of the Cavea and its new stage and therefore he designed a contemporary urban park. Here will take place the plot of the opera showing right away, during the prelude, a little girl Adina playing on one of the swings in the park and that we will find shortly after, with a time jump given to music, adult and capricious (but we could understand why) to browse through the book where it tells the story of the love filter drunk by Tristan that gives inspiration to the whole story. A story that does not skimp comic and sparkling traits, cheats hilarious but also offers elements of melancholy that find the maximum example in the famous aria of the tenor "Una furtiva lagrima", all factors that draw a score that has become since its first performance a work of great success and much loved.
