Florence, October 15th, 2024 - After the concert dedicated to the performance of Johannes Brahms' Ein deutsches Requiem in the Sala Mehta on 10 October, two more symphonic events, on 17 and 26 October 2024, with the four symphonies are dedicated to the great German composer by the maestro Daniele Gatti at the helm of the Maggio Orchestra.

Opening the concert on Thursday, October 17th, the Symphony n. 3 in F major op. 90, written in the summer of 1883 almost six years after the completion of his last symphonic work: the first performance took place in December of that year in Vienna, under the direction of Hans Richter, And the triumph was such as to surprise Brahms himself, who had always looked with suspicion at immediate successes and acclaim from the public, but this time he drew a great, albeit intimate, and conscious satisfaction.

The concert ends with the Symphony n. 1 in C minor op. 68, which was first performed in 1876 but whose first notes by Brahms date back to more than twenty years before, namely 1855: the gestation of the first symphonic effort of the German composer was very long and elaborate; the first stage of it was completed only in 1862 while the current form of the work was finished in the summers of the two years 1874-1876 that Brahms spent in almost total isolation on the island of Rügen, in the Baltic Sea, in a context that is entirely suited to him for his work as a composer.

The last concert dedicated to the symphonies of Johannes Brahms, also conducted by maestro Daniele Gatti, is scheduled - again in Zubin Mehta Hall - Saturday, October 26th 2024, at 8pm: on the program the Symphony n. 2 in D major op. 73 and the Symphony n. 4 in E minor op. 98.
