Florence, 2 February 2026 – Following the great success of the extraordinary concert on 21 January, Maestro Zubin Mehta returns to lead the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino Orchestra. On Friday, 6 February 2026 at 8:00 p.m., the Music Director Emeritus for Life takes the podium of the Mehta Hall with a program entirely dedicated to the compositions of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, featuring the performance of the last three symphonies composed by the Salzburg genius.
The evening opens with Symphony No. 39 in E-flat major, K. 543: written in June 1788, it was composed during a particularly difficult period, marked by concerns stemming from a disastrous financial situation, compounded by disappointment over the lack of success of Don Giovanni in Vienna.
This is followed by Symphony No. 40 in G minor, K. 550, which is distinguished by its nocturnal and sorrowful character: the four movements of which it is composed indeed “contain” a new sense of profound unease that weaves through the orchestra from the beginning to the end of the work.
The evening concludes with Symphony No. 41 in C major, K. 551, the celebrated Jupiter: in this work Mozart pays tribute to musical tradition, engaging with the great models of the past (Bach and Handel) as well as those of his own time (Haydn).
The same symphonic program, again conducted by Maestro Mehta at the helm of the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino Orchestra, will also be presented on the following days as part of a short tour, taking the Maestro and the Orchestra first to Switzerland—on 7 February—at the LAC Lugano Arte e Cultura in Lugano, and on 10 February to the Teatro del Giglio in Lucca.
