The statement by the superintendent of the Maggio, Carlo Fuortes, at the Abbiati Prize awarded to maestro Daniele Gatti

MAESTRO DANIELE GATTI, MAIN CONDUCTOR OF THE MAGGIO MUSICALE FIORENTINO, AMONG THE WINNERS OF THE 43rd EDITION OF THE “FRANCO ABBIATI” MUSIC CRITICS AWARD

The statement by the superintendent of the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Carlo Fuortes

The commission of the 43rd edition of the "Franco Abbiati" music criticism award met on 25 April 2024 at the headquarters of the Lucchese Music Association.
"The Abbiati Award – said president Andrea Estero – has had the function of telling the story of Italian musical life for more than forty years, bringing to the attention institutions and realities of great value, sometimes overlooked by the national press. This is the case of many award winners in this edition. This year's awards also recognize the recovery and vigor of institutions that have experienced difficult moments in the more or less recent past - such as the Teatro Regio of Turin or the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, focusing on the leading role of its main conductor, Daniele Gatti – and who today can instead look to the future with renewed optimism".

The superintendent of the Maggio Carlo Fuortes comments on the award to maestro Gatti: "I am very happy, also on behalf of the entire theatre, that the Music Critics Association has awarded the coveted Abbiati prize for best conducting to maestro Daniele Gatti, director main event of the May, and I congratulate him for this prestigious recognition. Beyond Gatti's very high artistic value, I thank the Association for the motivation that led the critics to award it: the driving role that the maestro had and has at the Maggio and the recognition of the newfound vigor of the Maggio Fiorentino which can look towards the future with optimism. The maestro was, in the period of the crisis and the administration, an essential and irreplaceable point of reference for our theater and he never did. lack of his support, his ideas and his programming proposals which allowed, despite the difficulties, that the Theater continued to guarantee the public the high profile of quality that characterizes its long history. Furthermore, this sign of confidence makes me proud and once again strengthens my belief in the great potential of our May. It is a very important and gratifying sign also because it comes from those who work carefully and competently follow the programming and evolution of Italian musical institutions."
