Florence, 24 November 2023 - The Teatro del Maggio adheres to the initiatives of 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, with a specific installation on the occasion of the afternoon performance of La bohème staged on the same day at 3.30 pm. An installation with symbolic red shoes will be displayed, symbolising the "no" to gender violence and with a strongly symbolic value to represent women victims of feminicide.
On the façade of the theatre, in the early afternoon before the performance, a large red drape will be lowered at one of the entrances to the great hall, in front of which a long row of red-dyed shoes, donated by colleagues from the Maggio, will be placed on the forecourt. The queue, made up step by step, will stop abruptly and dramatically in front of the entrance without crossing the threshold to symbolise those women who might have wished to go to the theatre, to any theatre, not just the Maggio's, to experience their everyday life made up of entertainment, music and culture and who instead tragically will no longer be able to do so.
