Maggio aperto
The concert students of the Luigi Cherubini Conservatory of Florence in concert at the Maggio
June 11 at 7 pm and 9 pm in the Orchestra Hall
Florence, June 10th 2025 - Wednesday, June 11th, 2025, as part of the 87th edition of the Maggio Festival, the “Maggio Aperto” project is enriched with an important opportunity dedicated to the young protagonists of the Florentine musical scene: the concert students of the “Luigi Cherubini” Conservatory of Florence. There are two events scheduled, the first at 7 pm and the second at 9 pm, in the Orchestra Hall, for the two concerts that will see the students of the “Ensemble music for string instruments” and “Chamber music” classes perform, under the guidance of teachers Alina Company, Daniela De Santis and Tiziano Mealli.
The initiative represents an excellent training opportunity that combines the quality of the Conservatory's academic teaching with the concreteness of the experience on stage. Performing in an internationally renowned cultural institution such as the Teatro del Maggio and within its Festival, is not only an important testing ground for young musicians, but also an opportunity to interact with the public, refine their performance skills and experience first-hand the professional dimension of making music.
The evening’s programme ranges from the twentieth century to European Romanticism. It opens at 7 pm with one of the most intense pieces of the string quartet repertoire, the Quartet No. 8 in C minor op. 110 by Dmitri Shostakovich, performed by the Azalee Quartet (Ginevra Panzi, Lorena Palmieri, Emma Pancini, Akemi Battistini). This is followed by two compositions by the Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg, a poet of sound: the Sonata in A minor op. 36 for cello and piano, with Elena Zenere and Rufan Qian, and the Sonata in C minor op. 45 for violin and piano, with Alexander Sardon Trampus and Tiziano Francisci. At 9 pm, space is given to two masterpieces of late-Romantic chamber music by Johannes Brahms: the Quintet in B minor op. 115 for clarinet and strings, with Matilde Michielin (clarinet), Emma Pancini, Pavlos Misirlis, Matilde Fubiani and Elena Zenere; and the Trio op. 8 for strings and piano, entrusted to Neri Nencini, Martina Bellesi and Mariangelica Giannetta.
