Florence, 21 November 2025 – On Sunday, 23 November 2025 at 11:00 a.m., conductor Roberta Peroni will make her debut on the podium of the Zubin Mehta Hall, at the head of the Orchestra of the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, for a new and sparkling symphonic event as part of the concerts dedicated to young people, very young people, and their families.

The programme features a performance of the great zoological fantasy The Carnival of the Animals by Camille Saint-Saëns. It was composed in 1886, during a period of rest. However, the general public had to wait nearly forty years before hearing it because, by the composer’s own order, it was not to be performed publicly as long as he was alive. The composition, full of spirit and humour, was immediately loved also for the singularity of its subject: the animals—described in music by Saint-Saëns—were nothing more than a humorous parade of characters from the Parisian musical scene.

The narrator, guiding the audience through the various sections that make up The Carnival of the Animals, in the role of the Zoologist, will be Gaia Nanni, one of the most appreciated and talented Florentine actresses—also known for her appearances on both the big and small screen—returning to the stage of the Mehta Hall after the success of the Water & Fire show last February.

Roberta Peroni is the stage music director of the Petruzzelli Foundation in Bari and, over the course of her career, she has collaborated as an assistant with conductors such as Stefano Montanari, Renato Palumbo, Giampaolo Bisanti, Giacomo Sagripanti, Michele Spotti, and Pietro Mianiti. She has conducted, to the appreciation of both audience and critics, Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette in the 2022 opera season of the Teatro Petruzzelli and, since 2018, the matinées of the operas on the bill—including Il trovatore, Andrea Chénier, Tancredi, Rigoletto, La traviata, Madama Butterfly, and Die Walküre—for the Theatre’s Educational project. She has conducted the Petruzzelli Theatre Orchestra in various symphonic programmes and in the concerts of the “Municipi Sonori” series of the City of Bari.
