Marina Comparato’s Solo Album
World premiere recording of Luigi Gordigiani’s chamber romances
December 12, 2025 – Release date and presentation at the Teatro del Maggio, at 5 PM
Florence, December 11, 2025 – Romantic Florence – Songs for Voice and Piano, the new album from the mezzosoprano Marina Comparato, accompanied on the piano by her long-time artistic partner Gianni Fabbrini, will be available from Friday, December 12, under the Dynamic label. Recorded in November 2024 at the Teatro del Maggio—which supports the project—the album, a world premiere of Luigi Gordigiani’s vocal chamber works (except for the two Canti popolari toscani, tracks 21 and 22), brings back to light the composer whom nineteenth-century press affectionately called “the Italian Schubert,” a master of the salon romance and a key figure of Risorgimento-era Florence.
The album will be presented on December 12 at 5 PM in the foyer of the Teatro del Maggio with a short concert by the two artists, introduced by Valentina Lo Surdo and featuring contributions from musicologists Mila De Santis, Marco Mangani, and Giovanni Vitali (free admission).
Perugian by birth and Florentine by adoption, Marina Comparato pairs her singing career with ongoing research that has made her an attentive interpreter of forgotten repertoires. “Getting to know Luigi Gordigiani was like tiptoeing into a musical salon of nineteenth-century Florence,” the mezzo-soprano said. “While studying his splendid chamber romances for the recording project, I immersed myself in historical research on this musician, gradually discovering his environment, his mentors, his descendants, and curiosities about his compositions. The CD therefore became the starting point for a broader project: rediscovering and recounting the figure of the ‘Italian Schubert,’ including through short videos. I hope that Romantic Florence will stir the listener’s imagination as much as it has tickled mine!”
Starting in January 2026, Romantic Florence will go on tour in several Italian cities.
