A fistful of dollars - Movie with live soundtrack
Maggio Musicale Fiorentino Orchestra plays Morricone
Programma
“When a man with a pistol meets a man with a rifle, the man with the pistol is a dead man.”
The Cavea is transformed into a true open-air cinema: A fistful of dollars, the first chapter of the celebrated “Dollars trilogy” directed by Sergio Leone and starring Clint Eastwood (completed by For a few dollars more and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly), is screened with its soundtrack performed live by the Maggio Orchestra and Chorus.
The lone gunslinger Joe arrives in San Miguel, on the border between Mexico and the United States, where two powerful families—the Rojos and the Baxters—have been waging war for years over control of alcohol and arms smuggling. Joe attempts to turn them against each other, hoping they will destroy one another, but his plan is discovered and he is left for dead. After managing to escape, he returns to San Miguel to carry out his ruthless revenge.
Released in September 1964, A fistful of dollars gave new momentum to the western genre, introducing a more intimate narrative dimension marked by nihilism and pessimism, as well as chilling irony and brutality. Leone’s radically innovative direction was matched by a then little-known leading actor—Clint Eastwood—destined to become an international star, and by Ennio Morricone’s iconic score, often described as the ultimate synthesis of the entire western imaginary.
On the occasion of the performances taking place in the Cavea del Teatro del Maggio, the bar service will be open from 7 PM.
