An initiative of the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino for the public: from 2 October 2022 a free welcome service will be activated for children, during the afternoon shows

Florence, 20 September 2022 – The Maggio Musicale Fiorentino – with the Cultural Promotion Service – launches, starting from Sunday 2 October 2022 on the occasion of the opera Il Trovatore scheduled at 15, an important and interesting free initiative – already experimented with success at the Teatro Comunale – to welcome children while the “grown-ups” watch the opera.

During the afternoon shows 20 children from 5 to 11 years of age whose companions have a subscription to the afternoon performances or a valid ticket for the “matinee” performance will be supervised by three trained and qualified educators from the CSMA “Music & Art Study Center” in Florence, specialized in training in the musical field with particular attention to children.

The appointments already fixed are for now 9 and follow the afternoon calendar of both the Autumn Festival and the Carnival Festival with the works Il Trovatore (October 2), Alcina (October 22), Ernani (two occasions for children: October 13 and 20), Don Carlo (January 8, 2023), Doktor Faust (2 occasions for children: February 11 and 19), The Rake’s Progress (March 19) and Carmen (April 16).

Reservations reserved for 1 child for each subscription or ticket can be made online on the Evenbrite platform at the address: https://crescendo_prenotazioni.eventbrite.it. Reservations close by 12 noon on the Friday prior to the performance. For the first occasion linked to Il Trovatore on Sunday 2 October, reservations close on Friday 30 September.

During each work, children will be welcomed in the foyer and then accompanied – and always followed by the CSMA educators – in one of the large rooms usually available for rehearsals to participate in themed workshops of the scheduled work, in the simulation of the languages of the show, role-playing, making music together with other artistic forms such as mimicry and movement, figurative arts and poetry, in an interdisciplinary perspective.

During the interval of the current performance, the children, accompanied by the educators, will visit the theater and at the end of the show they will meet with the “grown-ups” and show them the elaborates, drawings, artifacts, or skits, made over time passed together.

In the attention that Maggio, since the very distant 1947 – the first theater in Italy, at the time – reserves for children and the very young with a program dedicated to them, this initiative too – already successfully experimented at the Teatro Comunale – fits into the groove fundamental of one of the missions of the Theater and that is to say the formation of the “new audience” that learns to confront and approach, playing and having fun, with music. The image of this operation takes up the one already known and widespread at the time and pays tribute to the graphic expert in communication of social and cultural interest, Andrea Miola, who conceived it.
