The story of Princess Turandot is ancient, it goes back a long time, yet she is alive, real … She belongs to us … It tells of a beautiful princess, Turandot, a young woman who was afraid and hid behind words. He had made it his fortress. His prison.
Turandot had lost her joy, and had become “the frost princess”. Cruel, distant, closed in the silence of its mystery. Without hope, without passion, without love. Hard and gorgeous like a crystal. Many princes had tried in vain to solve his enigma, to reveal his words but no one had succeeded … Until …
Started in autumn 2019, the project “All’Opera… Le scuole al Maggio” was supposed to debut with the reduction from Giacomo Puccini’s opera Turandot in March 2020 at the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino but the pandemic did not allow its staging, natural conclusion of the training course that since 2006 has trained and brought on stage the students of Florentine schools through a project of approach and dissemination of the opera, one of the most original on the European scene, which has involved over 145,000 students over the years, of which over 10,000 on stage.
Conceived by Venti Lucenti, the show is produced in co-production with the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, thanks to the support of the Fondazione CR Firenze and the contribution of the Department of Education and Welfare of the Municipality of Florence and in collaboration with the Accademia del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino.
The 2021 edition of La principessa di gelo provides for the presence of students from the Institutes Monticelli, Balducci, Vittorio Veneto, Salesiano dell’Immacolata and De Filippo who have been selected by Le Chiavi della Città and who will participate from the audience in the four scheduled performances, opening the season in the Cavea of the LXXXIII Festival del the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino.
Manu Lalli, Artistic Director of Venti Lucenti: “We hope with this moment of collectivity in the presence (with respect for all anti-contagion regulations) to participate, even if in a small part, and through art and music, in a rebirth of the artistic activities of the children and above all to give the young protagonists a sign of hope. The school, the teachers, the educational experience are the basis for the creation of the citizens of tomorrow. The “All Opera… Schools in May!” has trained thousands of young people from the city to get to know the Opera and it is with renewed enthusiasm that we hope to see you numerous at the theater to participate with your children in this beautiful city festival! “.
“Le Chiavi della Città leave school and arrive at the theater – said the Councilor for Education Sara Funaro -: the students of the city institutes who have joined the project of approach and dissemination of the opera will wear the role of actors and they will perform in the Cavea of the Teatro del Maggio. It will be an immense joy to see them engaged in a play that allows them to bring out their artistic and expressive qualities. Joy of which we were deprived last year due to the Covid emergency and the consequent impossibility of carrying out initiatives in presence “. “The theater is the bearer of a community dimension and a sense of belonging – continued Funaro -, two important principles in the training and educational path of our students. The combination of Venti Lucenti and Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino is a guarantee of quality – continued Funaro – and the collaboration, which has grown over the years, between these two artistic realities with the world of schools gives important results in which we want to continue to invest. Because the school must offer students theoretical notions, but also practical opportunities through which to test themselves “.
” The new edition of the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino – declares the Director General of the Fondazione CR Firenze Gabriele Gori – could not have started in the best way. The experience of Venti Lucenti and the ‘All’Opera’ project are among the most original initiatives in the national and international music scene. If we are the main supporters of it, it is because we believe very much in the highly educational value of music and, above all, in playing and acting together. This year, in particular, the project takes on a special significance dictated by the gravity of the months that we have just passed and we strongly believe that the joy of children and their families marks for all of us the resumption of a normal life in the name of sociability. We are close to the students, their parents and the whole Venti Lucenti team who have shown how music and entertainment are stronger than the pandemic. Well done ”.
