The traditional, beloved New Year’s Concert of the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole, which since 1983 has affectionately gathers the city around the young Fiesole musicians, crowding the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino on the morning of the first day of each new year, cannot be held this time in the usual, festive arrangements.
The School’s musical greetings will arrive in any case at 11.30 am on 1 January 2021, when they will be visible and listenable on the Facebook page and on the Youtube channel of the School, on the Facebook pages of the Regione Toscana, the Comune di Firenze, the Comune di Fiesole, the Fondazione CR Firenze, the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino and Rete Toscana Classica, media partner of the project.
The protagonists of the event are the young strings of the Galilei Orchestra who, under the direction of Edoardo Rosadini, perform the Elegy from the “Serenade for strings in C major op. 48” by Cajkovskij, a page of intense expressiveness, with which the School wishes to offer the tangible sign of a constant and confident commitment to the future.
“Starting from the upheavals suffered by the community shortly after the beginning of the past year – says Alexander Lonquich, artistic director of the school for a few months – thanks to a notable joint effort, music has never ceased to be silent in Fiesole. However, it is undeniable that the limitations imposed have led us to psychologically perceive our activities as something fragile, largely destined to take place in the “private”, prevented from becoming an instrument of truly community interaction according to the natural vocation of what we practice every day. The effort will continue, in the hope of being able to reopen the doors to citizenship as soon as possible, breaking the current cloak of apparent silence, finally returning to dialogue with you through meetings and concerts. I wish everyone a new year lived in the sign of serene creativity, the root of the gradual and conscious recovery of the joy of sharing “.
“It is sad to think of a New Year’s Eve without the traditional concert of the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole at the Teatro del Maggio Musicale, but this sadness will be partially comforted by the musical greeting that will still arrive in our homes, bringing with the notes a very special message”. Thus the president of the Regione Toscana Eugenio Giani greets and thanks the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole. “In this musical greeting – concludes Giani – I also see a wish that I particularly care, so that the music, once the health emergency has been overcome, can soon return to be performed and listened to live and so that we can all applaud our artists again, starting with the youngest “.
“The Scuola di Musica di Fiesole has done very well – said the President of the Fondazione CR FirenzeLuigi Salvadori – to promote, this year too, in a different form, an event to which we all love. It is a sign of trust and hope for a new year that promises to be full of unknowns, but which we must all face with courage and with the will to restart with new ideas and with a new momentum. We must resume the journey, as the Galilei Orchestra teaches us, working together in harmony and on the same score: the design of a new social and urban fabric suitable for the new needs that emerged overwhelmingly with the Covid emergency. For some time now, our institution has been moving in this spirit and will continue to do so with the determination that is its own and which is unanimously recognized to us. May this concert truly be the sign of a new beginning, for everyone ”.
